Women in Tech: Intro to Python Workshop Summary
Intro to Python Workshop in our Meeting Space
Last Wednesday, we hosted an Introduction to Python workshop, organized by the Meetup group Pyladies. Inspired by Pyladies’ aim to get more women in Toronto involved with Technology, we feel it is a good idea to write about our experience with the first Python workshop in this blog post. Seeing how much fun technology can be, we hope this post encourages many more girls to join tech related events in Toronto.
Women in Tech: Introduction to Python Workshop
Attending a tech event in Toronto usually means to be surrounded by an overwhelming majority of guys, which makes you wonder: “Where are all the women?”.
In fact, we could use some more girls in Toronto’s tech community. Although the number of tech events and groups focusing on women is vastly increasing, the percentage of women working in tech-related jobs is still much lower as compared to men. Learning how to code, develop, and design are significant skills that can come in handy when trying to score jobs in the often male-dominated tech industry.

Affordable Startup Office Space: Pay less get more!
In the last two months, a growing number of young startups and entrepreneurs knocked on our door asking for downtown office space. Usually those creative individuals have the same requirement: They need a professional space to get their work done and grow their business. Some of them come from the coffee shops of the city and others worked from home before. What they have in common is the motivation to change their work situation into something more serious without loosing much of their precious startup budget. Here, at 7 Labatt Place, we came up with a great solution to this problem.
Let’s go for a walk in our neighbourhood
In last week’s blog post we talked about Toronto’s booming real estate market and office space rental. This week we devote our attention to our interesting neighbourhood and the exciting projects happening all around 7 Labatt Place.
South of 7 Labatt Place, a multi-million development project is transforming the West Don Lands into a modern, sustainable, and community-friendly neighbourhood. “The West Don Lands is being transformed from former industrial lands into a sustainable, mixed-use, pedestrian-friendly, riverside community.”*
As part of the West Don Lands development, we witness construction at multiple sites around the corner of Labatt Avenue at Queen Street East and River Street. New condos, townhouses, and commercial buildings will soon make the neighbourhood even more exciting and lively. We took a walk in the neighbourhood earlier this week. Below are some impressions showing the exciting development projects around 7 Labatt Place:
